Gas Installation: Kelham Island Museum
GAS INSTALLATION CASE STUDY
Kelham Island Museum, Sheffield
Client: Kelham Island Museum showcases Sheffield’s engineering heritage. For commercial gas pipework, Kelham Island Museum has become a trusted client of Ormond Pipework Services Ltd.
The problem:
The museum had an issue with a 4” gas booster supplying a steam boiler.
The gas booster was increasing the pressure back into the existing installation.
In order to prevent a pressure increase in the rest of the main, and to meet Gas Safe standards, a non-return valve had to be installed before the booster.
Our solution:
Ormond first turned off a local 6” valve and then indirectly purged the supply feeding the gas booster and steam boiler.
Once the installation was safely purged, we dismantled the existing pipework. After taking measurements, we fabricated new pipework to include a non-return valve complete with purge points.
Ormond then performed a gas tightness test and directly purged the amended the gas pipework installation.
Upon completion, a Gas Safe certificate was issued to Kelham Island Museum.
Tasks involved:
- Welding
- Indirect gas purge
- Direct gas purge
- Gas testing
- Gas pipework installation
- Gas Safe certificate
Client testimony:
“Anytime there is work to be done on our
commercial gas installation we give Ormond a call.”
