Medium Density Polyethylene (MDPE) pipework is widely used in water supply, gas supply, and various other applications because of its flexibility, durability, and resistance to corrosion.

MDPE pipes are known for their longevity and resistance to ground movement.

Electrofusion is an essential technique for joining MDPE pipes and fittings. The process requires careful preparation, cleaning and clamping prior to fitting the electrofusion machine.

The electrofusion fitting, which has embedded electric heating elements, is then placed onto the pipe ends. Using our specialised electrofusion machines we can join the pipe by melting the polyethylene at the interface of the pipe and fitting, fusing them together.

Once the fusion cycle is complete, the joint is allowed to cool, solidifying the melt and forming a strong bond. After the joint has cooled, it's inspected to ensure a proper fusion.

For larger diameter MDPE pipework, butt fusion may be used to join pipes and fittings.

We will assess each project to determine the appropriate techniques. Only Gas Safe registered engineers are certified to work on MDPE gas pipelines.

Before the system is put into service, pressure testing is usually carried out to ensure the integrity of the pipeline and its joints.

A Gas Safe certificate will be issued upon a successful pressure test.
