The client:Hilton Hotel at Heathrow Airport trusted hot tapping engineers, Ormond Pipework Services Ltd, to complete a live tapping on their commercial gas pipework.
The problem:Hilton required a new branch off their existing gas installation to supply a new boiler. Downtime of the gas supply was not an option because the hotel was in use.
The only way to avoid downtime was to live tap the gas pipework. Ormond were brought in to perform a hot tapping in order to form the new branch.
Our solution: Ormond welded a 3” on 10” hot tapping saddle to the existing pipework.
After a successful pressure test, we began to under pressure drill the existing system.
Once the live tapping was complete, a safety blank was attached to the valve.
Hot tapping the connection avoided plant downtime, purging and testing.
